In addition to increasing the opportunities our students have during the day, TITA also recognise that many need access to a longer day. After hours activities are difficult to provide for students with autistic spectrum disorders, severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties.
ADS students need specialised services. Schools and Colleges are funded to provide education and training during the day, however many of our users would benefit from an extended day. We would like to offer activities and services during evenings, public holidays, and at weekends.
TITA’s newest fundraising project focuses on what happens to pupils after they leave school. Provision for people with disabilities after the age of 19 is very variable and many parents report that they are not happy with the provision that is made available for their young people once they leave school.
Initially TITA will conduct research into this area with a view to establishing a Further Education Unit to advise and support young people between the ages of 18 and 25 with autistic spectrum disorders, and learning difficulties.
